Rehab after surgery

Rehabilitation at home after surgery

For people going home from hospital after an operation, and for hospital doctors looking for an outpatient option on the Gold Coast.

Going home after an operation

The first few weeks after surgery are usually the hardest time to get to a clinic. You may not be allowed to drive, and getting in and out of a car can be the most uncomfortable part of the day. Shreya comes to you instead.

  • Getting moving safely at home: bed, chair, stairs, shower and getting out of the house.
  • Following the protocol your surgeon has set, including any limits on weight-bearing or movement.
  • A program that steps up as you heal, set up with what you have at home.
  • Moving on to a gym or a pool later if that suits you (gym-based rehab, hydrotherapy).

What it costs

Most people coming home from hospital pay privately: $275.99 for the initial visit and $183.99 for follow-ups, by card at the end of the visit. If your extras cover includes physiotherapy, we give you a receipt to claim back from your fund.

If the surgery followed a work injury with an accepted WorkCover claim, WorkCover pays us directly and there is no gap. See fees and funding.

To do — Medicare is deliberately left off this page

Two things have to be true before Medicare can be mentioned. Shreya needs her own Medicare provider number for the practice, and the patient needs a GP chronic condition management plan. A referral from a hospital doctor or specialist does not attract a Medicare physiotherapy rebate.

For hospital doctors and discharge planners

Up the Road Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation is a mobile service covering most of the Gold Coast, from Yatala to Coolangatta and west to Gilston. Shreya Rane is registered with Ahpra (PHY0002709992) and holds an NDIS Worker Screening Check and a Queensland Blue Card.

  • Home visits, so patients who cannot travel or drive are still seen.
  • We follow your post-operative protocol, and will ask for it if it does not come with the referral.
  • Written updates to the treating team and the patient’s GP, with the patient’s consent.
  • Private, NDIS (self-managed and plan-managed) and WorkCover Queensland patients.

What we need with a referral: patient name and contact details, suburb, the operation and its date, the post-operative protocol or any precautions, and who to send progress notes to.

More for referrers

To do

Add the referral method and the phone number once they are settled, and decide the response time Shreya can commit to.
